What do I get with the Family Finder DNA Test?
Our signature Family Finder test focuses on autosomal DNA, which is inherited from both parents, four grandparents, eight great-grandparents, etc. This test is designed to find matches in our massive DNA database on all of your ancestral lines within the last five generations. Family Finder includes:
- myOrigins® – mapping tool that provides a detailed ethnic and geographic breakdown of where your ancestors came from
- ancientOrigins – tool that maps your ancient ancestors’ migration routes and shows the amount of autosomal DNA you still carry from ancient European civilizations.
- Family Matching – enhanced feature that enables users to sort confirmed DNA matches by maternal and paternal lines
- Chromosome Browser – exclusive tool for comparing matching segments of DNA (blocks) with your genetic matches Learn More
In myOrigins®, what are some of the populations I can expect to see in my report?
Your myOrigins® results within Family Finder will reflect a personal ethnic and geographic breakdown of your ancestral origins worldwide, connecting you to regional origins from our 90+ Population Clusters.
What if myOrigins® results are not what I expected?
People sometimes feel their results are not accurate because they do not see a specific country or population reported. Please keep in mind that myOrigins® uses regional percentages (not nationality/specific countries), as DNA mutates regionally rather than across man-made borders. It is also common for some individuals not to see certain reference populations, as they may not have received enough genetic “markers” for that particular population throughout the generations.
How do I see my most recent matches?
Family Finder allows you to sort/filter your matches list by most recent matches. If you receive an email notifying you of a new Family Finder match, go to your matches list in your dashboard and click the heading Match Date. This will reorganize your matches to list most recent matches first.
I am trying to purchase Family Finder, and the cart won't let me.
If you are trying to purchase Family Finder and you receive an Error Message in your cart, it could be the following:
- Family Finder cannot be added to your account if you already ordered an Autosomal DNA Transfer and/or transferred Raw Data from another testing company.
- If attempting to order Family Finder for someone else but are signed in to your kit (account), you will need to “add or gift another kit” and add Family Finder to that new kit.
How do I get Family Matching to work?
If you are trying to use the Family Matching system and populate your Maternal/Paternal matches:
- Please note that you must have matches “linked” to your family tree who have taken our Family Finder DNA test
- Family members you can “link” that will activate your Maternal/Paternal lists include: Parents; Grandparents; Great Grandparents; 1st, 2nd, 3rd Cousins; Aunt/Uncle; Great Aunt/Uncle; Half-Siblings
